CJI Forensic Sciences Program

The Criminal Justice Institute provides innovative education and training programs in the forensic sciences. The courses offered range from introductory level courses such as Crime Scene Investigation, Basic Crime Scene Processing, and Basic Digital Photography to more specialized courses such as Recovery of Human Remains, Computer Crime, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, and Using Forensic Light sources. CJI also offers two intensive programs designed to assist Arkansas law enforcement in effectively processing crime scenes for physical evidence—the Crime Scene Technician Certificate Program and the Advanced Crime Scene Technician Certificate Program. Both are nationally unique programs that allow rural and urban law enforcement personnel to receive hands-on education and training in crime scene investigation that will assist them in solving more crime in the communities they serve and protect.

All forensic sciences courses are designed to emphasize student participation and competency assessment through hands-on exercises and the utilization of computer, forensic, and educational equipment. The quality of these programs is enhanced by the case and law enforcement instructional experience of our instructors.

Because more than 95% of the law enforcement agencies in Arkansas serve and protect rural communities, all programs are designed to meet the unique needs and challenges of rural agencies. To increase the number of officers having access to these courses, the number of courses delivered off-campus has been increased.
